Visiting Hovedøya island, near Oslo

Cistercian monastery, Hovedøya Abbey, Oslo, Norway

on our last day in norway we hopped on the number 92 ferry to hovedøya, which lies just off the coast of oslo. at less than half a kilometre square it’s a pretty small island but there’s no shortage of things to see, most interesting of which has to be the remains of the monastery (which was built in 1147 & burnt down in 1532). after hearing that hovedøya is also known for nature we were crossing our fingers that we’d see a seal; it wasn’t too disappointing to realise hovedøya is more famous for it’s flora than fauna. wildflowers are kind of my thing.
